Wayne Community Health Centers

Wayne Community Health Center Awareness Month

This October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month our providers, nurses, and medical staff have challenged ourselves to becoming a lot more proactive in ALL of women’s health preventative diseases.

We would like to encourage you to get involved and be committed to better health!

  • A Pap Smear test should be done routinely every 3 years for women ages 21-65 years. Women who have had their cervix removed through hysterectomy, for reasons unrelated to cancer, do not need the Pap test. Pap test screening may be discontinued in women after the age of 65 if they’ve had 3 consecutive negative Pap tests and/or no abnormal Pap tests in the past 10 years.

  • On Thursday, October 6th our new Women’s Health Provider, Shannon Thurston, PA, will be hosting a Discounted Pap Smear day. (Copay waived for those with insurance. Slide qualified patients pay half of co-pay.)

  • Have you had a hysterectomy? If yes, total or partial, when and where? Please give us this information at your next office visit.

  • Mammogram Screening should be done yearly starting at age 40 years or more often with a previous history.

  • Garfield Memorial will have their Mobile Mammogram Unit at the Wayne County Courthouse on October 26, 2016 or can be performed at your local hospital.

  • Colonoscopy is recommended starting at age 50 years, every 10 years if normal. Ask your primary care provider about setting up an appointment with the specialty doctor.
